To celebrate the release of this new EP and the forthcoming début album Staring At The Ice Melt (both released March 23), Fortune is giving away all sorts of free goodies! Fortune is comprised of members from various other music projects including Lionel Pierres (Abstrackt Keal Agram), Pierre Lucas (The Big Knife, DJ for Abstrackt Keal Agram, keyboards for Alain, Chamfort), Hervé Loos (Y front, Rodolphe Burger’s Meteor Band) and François de Miomandre (The Yolks). At the End of 2007, Fortune released their first EP, an intense delivery of four Synth Pop-Rock bangers brightly crafted to simultaneously create uproar in the crowd as well as stir emotions.

As for the influences, whereas most bands now labelled as ‘post-punk’ are clearly heir to one or more mythical acts (take your pick from Joy Division, Talking Heads, Gang of Four, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Human League, New Order etc), Fortune goes against the flow : if you can spot, here and there, a few familiar sounds from those artists in the band’s music, the references put forward by the front man range from 60s Pop Rock bands such as the Zombies, The Troggs or Love, to basic Disco for its rhythm, or even the “King of Pop” himself Michael Jackson. Grandaddy, Doppler Effekt, Lo-Fi-Fnk and Vampire Weekend are quoted amongst the more recent bands having come to light in the last decade.

The chemistry could not have stuck together had it not been for an overwhelming production effort. Pierrick Devin, also regarded as the band’s fifth member, was given this task, as he had been before by Adam Kesher, Alex Gopher, Cassius or even Cut Copy. The mixing, vital to find the adequate balance of elements described above, was put in the trusted hands of Stéphane “Alf” Briat, also producer and mixer for such artists as Phoenix (“United”), Air (“Premiers symptoms”, “Moon Safari”, “The Virgin Suicides”), Sebastien Tellier (“Sessions”) etc. Finally, three additional artists also contributed to “Staring At The Ice Melt’s” musical richness: Arnaud Roulin from Poni Hoax (bass guitar and clavinet), Jean Thévenin (percussions, who also played with Soko, Toyfight, Hopper, Tahiti Bob & The Palmtree Family) and Melody Prochet (aka My Bee’s Garden) adding vocal harmonies.

The eponymous debut album from space-disco duo, Acid Washed is nearly here. Out on 29th March, 'Acid Washed' sees Richard D'Alpert and Andrew Claristidge realize their vision of creating sophisticated electronics with a sharp pop aesthetic, using vintage and modern equipment.

Various luminaries have been involved in the project so far, significant contributions coming from Xaver Naudascher, Supersoul Recordings head honcho, and Anthony Burrill, the British designer. Xaver was the man to lead Acid Washed through the final mixing and additional production stage whilst Anthony's striking geometric imagery adorns their record sleeves as well as being the hypnotic focal point of recent videos for debut 12" 'General Motors, Detroit, America - Snake'.

For you today, we have a previously unreleased remix of Snake, courtesy of Matthew Puffett a.k.a. Future Beat Alliance. Matthew is busy working on his next release, and we're really happy to have this mix to share with you today. The dynamic vocal from recent City Slang signing, Barbara Panther, gets sent on a journey through deep techno.

Cyberpunkers started in 2006 from the passion for Cyberpunk culture of two young Italian DJ’s. The format aims at giving a fresh start to this style through four different yet connected forms of art: electronic music, fashion, design and photography. In a nutshell, a transposition of the Cyberpunk world in modern clubbing.

Through several performances at famous clubs, Cyberpunkers drew lots of interest and ended up being talked about for both their original look and for the originality of their shows, which are marked out by the use of two consoles at once and powered by several audio machines.

Cyberpunkers have shared the stage with big names at some of the biggest electronic European festivals, and even with such a tight schedule it hasn't prevented them from doing a lot of important remixes and singles.

Cyberpunkers - Is Alternative

Background
The name Cyberpunkers comes from the cyberpunk culture we are so interested in.
We define our project in 4 words: electronic music, fashion, design and photography!
Our project is based on the balance of these 4 art forms. Of course, we start from Electronic Music and then we consider Fashion (vital for us because of our look). Consequently, there’s Design. It is necessary for our virtual image, where the cleanliness of the form and the use of colours in our website and in our logo are the essential features.
Last but not least there’s Photography: it is one of the main things of our project because with our photos we can create our trademarks and we can resume the most of our artistic needs.

Musical Background
We met four years ago working on the console of the “De Sade Cub” of Milan, and we discovered to have a very big passion for the “early” Cyberpunk Style, the one that you can find in the Ridley Scott’s movie “Blade Runner”: an authentic masterpiece of 1982.
Since we were Djs, we decided to create a format that could represent our personal interpretation of the style, pushing it in the current clubbing world.

New EP
I Needed To Go and O.M.G. will be out the 19th of March 2010 on Freakz Me Our Records (Germany). There will be 8 remixes: D.I.M from Boys Noize Records, Tom Deluxx, Belzebass, Autodidakt, Maxcherry, Gooseflesh, Jast A Band and Zero Cash.
We do also have a video for I Needed To Go, so it is clear that we have a lot of hope in this EP.

For composing our music initially we started with virtual instruments and some digital synths like Virus or Nord Lead, then we passed to full analog synth. In studio now we use a Moog Voyager and Dave Smith Prophet 08, and we add distortion using guitar pedals. We are very satisfied with the results we are having using these machines, since we moved to analog we think we’ve had a big breakthrough. For a sequencer, we use Nuendo and for the special effects we use the classic Waves. The work of post production (mixing and master) we do directly in our studio, we prefer to do it ourself, because we never agree in total with somebody out of our project. All our tracks are and will be done always and completely by us, using API Equalizer and two Distressor Compressors for the final master.

Future
We have a lot of surprises! A new EP and many gigs all around the world. We’d like to do a tour in the U.S.A. and another one in Australia, because the first Australian Tour was so short.

Tips
The only advice that we would like to give to the new recruits are to have a personal style that can emerge and be noticed, avoid schools of dj or production, no one can teach you how to produce or dj, they need to be the shapers of themselves, and do a long and intimate route to mature their style.
When playing live, is very important to interact with the crowd, getting involved entirely from his pathos, sharing it with those who dance, and you must transmit all the energy you have.

Who
Belzebass, Pelussje and Tom Deluxx are ones to look out for, also because we have the same management, Metromute Agency (www.myspace.com/metromute).
We trust in Blisters Boyz, a young french duo, we do also a remix for them, Solferino stuff, comin out next April 2010 on Paranoiak Label.
But if you follow with a little bit attention this music movement, you’ll find a lot of very interesting artist and projects.

Blogging
Blogs are the fastest way to have a contact and a comparison with our fans and not only that, using this we can have our ideas confirmed that our project are what people want.
The blogs are very useful also because we can promote our future event and stuff, so a very good way to do advertising.
If we thought that there wass no interest, we’ll never accept to release this interview J

We’d like to listen sereval artist, like, for example Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim), Chemical Brothers, Bjork, Air, Basement Jaxx, Daft Punk, Beastie Boys, Cassius, Moby, Prodigy and all the Techno of the Years ’90, but also (sorry for this mixture) Sex Pistols, Ramones, The Clash, Korn, Nirvana, The Offspring, System Of A Down, Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Tricky, Jamiroquai and Michael Jackson (R.I.P.) and also an Italian group: The Punkreas.

As everybody knows, doing music is not the only thing that an artist have to do: we also follow the contact with fans using websites (myspace, Facebook, Twitter) because we love to answer directly to anybody that asks us something.
We stay with our friends! We are often far from Milan, so when we’re free, spend our time with them and our family is a great thing!
We love roller blading for example, but also make sex and be drunk.

Very early, Modek plunged himself into the Electro Scene, became a huge Fan of Producers and DJs of the likes of SebastiAn, Justice, Erol Alkan, Boys Noize, etc. and started producing. Not long after that, top DJ Duo Ed&Kim picked up his Song “Boomcrack” and dropped it on Belgium Radio Station 'Studio Brussel'. Soon after that, Modek remixed the Belgian Rave Classic “Anasthasia” by T99 and People started to get to know him and his Dirty Sound. This Track also made it to Studio Brussel while “Boomcrack” went Overseas, straight to Jaymo & Andy George’s BBC Radio One “In New DJs We Trust” Show. In November 2009, Modek’s hard hitting “Hiroshima” won the Belgian National Producers contest in the Electro/ Fidget Genre. By then he’d also done a bunch of own Tracks and Remixes for The Phantom`s Revenge, FutureFlashs or Project Cyborg and released on several Labels ( Keatchen Records, Monkey See Monkey Do, Sputnik/PIAS, G Point Muzik). In the Past he shared the Decks with Jack Beats, Jean Nipon, Ed&Kim, Mr. Magnetik, Keatch, Aerotronic, Geht’s Noch?!, Project Cyborg and was playlisted by Jokers of the Scene, Felix Cartal or Larry Tee. Now Modek, formerly known as Mellow signed his wild and pumping Electro Trash Banger “Mumps” on FutureFlashs new independent Label KIEZ BEATS, completing the EP with a couple of Remixes coming out in two Parts. The first Part includes the Original Mix beside Remixes from French Fries (Youngunz), who just remixed famous Bart B More for a Release on Sound Pellegrino and climbed the Beatport Top 100 with their first own EP and Antwerp famous DJ Team Aerotronic. Part Two pops up with the crazy Remixes from Sick Boy ( DIM MAK), Ado ( Wax:on Records), Berlin DJ Team The Sexinvaders and Frag Maddins new rocking Electro Project Chokr.

RQM was born in Poland, raised in NYC, transplanted to Berlin, then to Barcelona and now back in Berlin. He is an MC, writer, and producer.

His track record includes collaborations with the likes of Stereotyp, Al Haca, Jahcoozi, Mochipet, Tolcha, Filewile, The Tape, I-Wolf (of the Sofa Surfers), Chris de Luca and Phon.o, Megablast, Eva Be, and members of Micatone. The Stereo MCs personally invited The Tape vs RQM for the European leg of their tour, which was a great success for both projects. On top of that RQM has shared stages with M.I.A., Peter Kruder, Modeselector, The Rapture, Kool Keith, Lyrics Born, Roni Size, Nicolette, and many others.

His tracks are regularly on BBC 1 and Maryanne Hobbs even called him “one of the most important voices in music today.” Rolling Stone magazine gave his project with The Tape, “Autoreverse” the LP, a full four stars calling it “one of the most interesting hip hop records of the year and the best record Kitty Yo had released in years.” And recently BPM magazine’s Berlin issue gave close to 5 pages to RQM and his offshoot projects.

He has recently released his first solo EP 'Colors Fade' which we wrote about not so long ago here. We caught up with him to see where he's going to be going from here.

Residence
I'm back in Berlin right now after a 2 year stay in Barcelona. I haven't really recorded much out there. It could've been the weather - maybe it was too sunny. Or perhaps it was the laid back rhythm of the city - the manana mentality, which actually translated into weekly delays on sessions. Berlin on the other hand is a dark city with brutal winters or at least this one right now was like the coming of a new ice age. It's hard to escape introspection when you live here, you stay inside a lot and it's also really easy to deep dive into stark music. I think Berlin has definitely infused my music with a touch of that introspective haze.

Musical Background
My very first experience with music - i'll give it up to my grandma singing songs for me when i was still hella small. My first introduction to proper music was the early 80s NYC radio. I used to make my little mixtapes back then. I was a big Michael Jackson fan and then shortly after that Whodini blew my mind - I mean blew it to bits and pieces. The feeling that I got when I first heard 5 Minutes of Funk - that's that once in a lifetime!

Current EP
The current EP in terms of the sound I think it's the closest thing to my bones - it's my very own take on soul music, even though it might not come off that way being that it's all grizzly sounding. Atomic Fusion, the tune produced by Siriusmo, is by far one of my deepest tracks to date and one of my favorites. The whole thing is warped sound wise - all tribal, but then again a bit poppy and steppy. I still haven't heard anything like it out there. On the concept tip it's a song about love as a nuclear holocaust. Colors Fade, which was produced by the Glue Kids is more of a direct take on the topic - love so intense that it numbs the lovers.

Future
This year I'll be re-releasing Colors Fade in Japan (April). That's the first thing on the plate and then I need to start recording again. The ideas don't stop flowing, but I just haven't had the time to hit the studio being that I'm running the label all by lonesome.

Tips
I love what I do and it has allowed me to see a good chunk of the world, but on the whole it's always a battle and it's a shit load of work. I'd say that it's like with everything in life - you have to have the love for it otherwise you won't be able to endure the struggle. A clear vision of what you want will allow you to get there eventually.

Who
Ever since myspace became all spammed out I kind of lost touch with what's bubbling beneath the surface. I would say watch out for Son Of Kick, he dropped a serious remix on Colors Fade and I heard his new beats - they're type unique. JF, who's also on the EP got some serious arsenal coming.

Blogging
I love the immediacy of blogs. I love the interactivity of it all - the fact that what used to be a one sided diatribe on music became a proper dialogue. But I'm not feeling how music is often treated by them and how it becomes content filler. Just from doing my own promo I noticed that a lot of people don't really listen to the tunes that I send them and that they don't have a clear opinion about music in general. They just post music to stay ahead of the curve and to push their traffic numbers up. This is the downside of the culture. I don't discriminate - I love good music. I started the day off with Alice Coltrane, bumped a bit of Dead Prez and some De La. I've been bumpin a lot of Electric Wire Hustle recently, Mount Kimbie, Arthur Russell, Dead Weather, the new Massive Attack, the new Gil Scott Heron and a lot of Mulatu Astatke.. And the Fugazi itch started again.

We pressed 84 of them and he painted over them creating a jigsaw puzzle about a relationship - there's heavy duty soul in that paint. As a gift to our fans we chose to cut the price of the packages. ‘Optimistic’ is Relation’s second single from their debut album ‘Fear Of Night’. Critically acclaimed in Electronic music industry circles and buoyantly welcomed in the Indie sphere, Essex boys Andrew Leary and Oliver Keech have developed an alternative, unique sound by combining meaningful lyrics with synth-pop to create both emotional depth and electronic rhythms. Although the compositions are truly progressive and they embrace a futuristic approach to their productions, their music has brought comparisons to New Order and the Pet Shop Boys as well as a wink to Depeche Mode.

‘Optimistic’ melds contemporary and classic electronic pop sounds, entwining bubbling synths into a social criticism of bankrupt modern Britain where meritocracy is dead and financial and emotional hardship can be all pervading. Oliver’s pleading and compelling vocals give the track a stand-out edge that should instantly provoke genuine interest and emotion in the listener. Cassette Club’s remix is a storm of soft electro combined with delicious disco while the Diogenes Club stay true to their sound and deliver a smooth remix with their uplifting Balearic signature. The band Eat More Cake gives a powerful resonance to the lyrics with atmospheric sounds and exoticism. Laserdisco, one of Andrew Leary’s experimental projects, is class dub with a dark eerie feel and Stephen Lopkin provides a kooky tech-house remix with heavy underground influences. Last but not least is Soundexile’s bouncy deep house remix that echoes the original’s thoughtful lyrics – perfect for dance floor warm-ups.
