Relation- 'Optimistic' Remixes

09 Mar 2010

Optimistic’ is Relation’s second single from their debut album ‘Fear Of Night’. Critically acclaimed in Electronic music industry circles and buoyantly welcomed in the Indie sphere, Essex boys Andrew Leary and Oliver Keech have developed an alternative, unique sound by combining meaningful lyrics with synth-pop to create both emotional depth and electronic rhythms. Although the compositions are truly progressive and they embrace a futuristic approach to their productions, their music has brought comparisons to New Order and the Pet Shop Boys as well as a wink to Depeche Mode.

“How can we play the rent when the money’s spent?”

Optimistic’ melds contemporary and classic electronic pop sounds, entwining bubbling synths into a social criticism of bankrupt modern Britain where meritocracy is dead and financial and emotional hardship can be all pervading. Oliver’s pleading and compelling vocals give the track a stand-out edge that should instantly provoke genuine interest and emotion in the listener. Cassette Club’s remix is a storm of soft electro combined with delicious disco while the Diogenes Club stay true to their sound and deliver a smooth remix with their uplifting Balearic signature. The band Eat More Cake gives a powerful resonance to the lyrics with atmospheric sounds and exoticism. Laserdisco, one of Andrew Leary’s experimental projects, is class dub with a dark eerie feel and Stephen Lopkin provides a kooky tech-house remix with heavy underground influences. Last but not least is Soundexile’s bouncy deep house remix that echoes the original’s thoughtful lyrics – perfect for dance floor warm-ups.

Eat More Cake's New Single And Remixes‏

18 Feb 2010

Following the poignant “Red Sky“, Eat More Cake deliver their second single “Fear No Evil” with remixes by Choking Dolphin and Steviebeatbox. Eat More Cake are a five piece band lead by songwriters and musicians Andrew Briggs and Matt Pearn supported on stage by drummer Alex Lane, DJ Owen Charles and vocalist Kay Juviler-Bacon. Their live show has wowed audiences at The Institute of Contemporary Arts, Camden Barfly, 93 Feet East, Hamswell and Glade festivals, as well as many other venues in and around London.

In “Fear No Evil” the band’s easy-flowing mixture of electronica, hip-hop and indie underpin a thesis on the illusions of childhood, urging the listener to embrace the truth and seek happiness in the real world, whatever it’s short-comings. The original mix is driven by an infectious blues-guitar loop and hand percussion whilst Choking Dolphin takes a more dreamy, electronica, synth-lead approach. The Steviebeatbox remix sees the vocals delivered over a bouncy Hip-hop beat and what feels like a slightly more optimistic chord progression.

Eat More Cake will be releasing their debut album “Climb The Ladder, Live The Dream” in 2010.

Eat More Cake – Red Sky Part 2 and Avatars Remix

04 Dec 2009

h2cr_EatMoreCakeRedSkyPartTwo_7

Red Sky is the first single from Eat More Cake’s debut album, “Climb The Ladder, Live The Dream” and features the haunting vocals of Alexis Griffith. The song is about contrast; delivering an esoteric message about perspective and ideology.

Red Sky is being released across two parts. Part One contains the avant-garde, with the original album version supported by remixes from the Diogenes Club, Lazybones and No Logo. Part Two is vectored towards the club, with remixes supplied by Borkmann, Avatars, Nikola Gala and the Diogenes Club, with their long player.

Eat More Cake in essence, are writers and musicians Andrew Briggs and Matt Pearn. On stage, they deliver musical direction into an edgy, accomplished and commanding 5-piece band comprising band members, Kay Juviler-Bacon (Vocals), Alex Lane (Drums), Owen Charles (Turntables, Ableton), with Andrew Briggs (Vocals, guitar) and Matt Pearn (Keyboards). Live highlights so far include Glade Festival, The Institute of Contemporary Arts (supporting One Eskimo), Camden Barfly, 93 Feet East and Hamswell Festival. They have also developed a strong grass-roots following in their hometown of Harrow, where they frequently headline at The Trinity.

Tracks by Eat More Cake have already appeared on Hed Kandi compilations, and on Radio 1. Commissioned remixes for artists include ‘Green Is For Go’, ‘One Eskimo’ and ‘Relation’.

Their debut album (out 2010), was recorded and produced predominantly live, at Eastcote Studios in London by Richard Kayvan. It also features performances by the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra, conducted and arranged by Youki Yamamoto and recorded and engineered by Matt Howe.

Eat More Cake’s writing style is defined by poignant, challenging and often caustic lyrical content, braced with lush orchestrations and irresistible head-nodding beats; surmised by Ibizan impresario Steve Miller (Afterlife) as “Utterly riveting, fresh, massive, huge and perfect for our times..” and by former head of Sony Music Urban Divison, Steve Ripley as “Stunning. I have heard nothing as good for years.”
